Canon Pixma Pro9000 Professional Large Format Inkjet Printer Review

by Mark Burnsworth

The Canon Pixma Pro9000 Professional Large Format Inkjet Printer churns out fabulous quality 13″ x 19″ photos on art paper at top speed. With it’s 4800 x 2400 dpi maximum output, the results are stunning. Colors are vibrant and are of professional quality. There is even an elaborate color control system with an eight different ink tanks, two being specifically photo cartridges.

This printer is perfect for the artist/photographer who demands exceptional print quality. There is a front feed for specially made for heavyweight paper types and artisan photo papers. Another feature made specifically to suit the creative artist personnel is the featured Easy PhotoPrint Pro plugin for Adobe Photoshop softwares (CS/CS2 and CS3/CS3 Extended).

Canon Pixma Pro9000 is a near perfect printer. It consistently produces spectacularly seamless 13 x 19 prints. Canon Pixma Pro9000 also prints extremely fast – regular 4 x 6 prints takes barely over a minute on top quality setting and under a minute for standard quality. 13 x19 prints take only a minute and half or under.

Color processing becomes easy with the Easy PhotoPrint Pro plugin. I like that the printer driver for Canon Pixma Pro9000 as it is capable of taking care of color automatically and the results are remarkable. This is because Canon Pixma Pro9000 uses pigment based printing with high fidelity to colorfastness. Prints are long lasting and can last over 30 years on display.

If you use the Canon Photo Paper Pro Super High Gloss, you can achieve superior professional print lab quality at the ease of your own home. Another advantage to Canon Pixma Pro9000 is that it is able to print on diverse paper stock while being able to produce top quality photo printouts.

The downside of Canon Pixma Pro9000 is that it does not print on 11 x 14 paper which is strange as it is considered a more regular size than 13 x 19. Canon also does not support prints larger than 19″. The sizes can be limiting for Canon Pixma Pro9000 but it plays out with the absolutely marvelous print quality and ease of synchronization with photo editing softwares.

Another small qualm I have about Canon Pixma Pro9000 is that it is not the quietest of printers. It tends to make shuffling noises during printing and while it warms up. Again, not a big deal because it works perfectly fine and delivers superior quality prints.

If you are looking for a professional printer that I highly recommend Canon Pixma Pro9000 for any photographers or enthusiast.
